Jeff Koons BMW M3 GT2 Art Car.

Number 17 in the series. American artist Jeff Koons took challenge of creating one of BMWs infamous Art Cars. After a 35year long stretch of BMW art cars Jeff took it up to himself a few years back to go approach BMW about creating this brightly multicolor vinyl scheme on their M3 GT2 race car that will be raced at the 24 hours of Le Mans.

The car was unveiled in Paris at the Pompidou Center and then raced at Le Mans the next week which was unfortunately forced to retire early. Lines of colour stream over the bodywork of the BMW M3 GT2 and graphics of debris have been applied to the rear sides and back. The design was applied by digitally printing onto car-wrapping vinyl and Jeff had to work with the engineers at BMW so the sticker did not mess up any of the car’s aerodynamics. It is a great looking car and pays homage to its past.

Jeff Koons at the unveiling said, “This car is about this type of life energy, this desire to achieve and this desire to win.” “This life energy is up against everything and it keeps pushing through with this desire to create.”

Euro B6 Passat

This came through our Flickr pool the other day and I couldn’t help myself but look into it some more. This is great example of a clean b6 passat and what can be done with the family car. I admit that this isn’t my favorite in the current VW lineup and the Passat CC overshadows the standard four door, but this car may change my mind. Smooth, low, wide splits and an aggressive front end. What more could you ask for? The photos are courtesy of Chris Winsor and were taken at his local GTG.

Dial 911 for VWoA

With Volkswagen of America’s move from Michigan to Herndon, VA, it was only a matter of time before VWoA started inserting themselves into the local community on as many levels as they could. What better way to get local recognition then to team up with the Herndon Police Department. In what will most likely only be a publicity parade, VWoA has donated two 2010 Passats in both Estate and Sedan variants to help keep the residents of Herndon safe … or on their toes.

To help up the police get the upper hand, VWoA called on their go-to team at APR to boost the Passat’s performance numbers to 250 hp and 299 ft-lbs of torque. VWoA then stepped in to upgrade the brakes all around to Passat 3.6 units as well as some OEM 18″ Velos alloys and dialed on on a set of coilovers set to “law-enforcement specifications”, whatever that may be. To bring the whole police package together, FMS Automotive was brought along to house all of the standard issue police communication equipment in OEM housings.

I hope to see one of these around sometime soon, albeit not in my rearview mirror, and maybe even get a good photoshoot out of it. I wonder how open the Herndon PD will be with their new toys.

24 Hours in 19500 Frames

This video has been floating around the forums for almost two weeks now, but we feel this is worth the watch. Filmed entirely on Canon 5D mkII’s, Tim Hahne does a great job at capturing the emotions of auto racing without needing a massive production budget.

We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who made the trip out to our Spring GTG Yesterday. Even with rain threatening to put a damper on the day, we had over 600 people in over 400 cars roll through the lot throughout the day. This is a true testament to the dedication that enthusiasts have today, and we couldn’t have asked for a better group of cars and people.

With license plates from North Carolina, New York, Delaware, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Virginia, and of course Pennsylvania … I think we can agree the GTG has found its place in the summer show schedule.

This year, we raised over $3000 with proceeds going to the American Red Cross. This donation will be going to the Lower Bucks County Homeless Shelter and the educational programs which they run from their facilities.

Below is a sample of some of the amazing cars from the day.

Yes, this is BlownEuros. We are usually more inclined to post images of clean, low slung, shiny, european cars. This doesn’t mean, however, that we don’t appreciate some creativity across the board. I think we can all appreciate the turbo diesel sled in the video below.

Raising the Bar

Ever since the boom of the import “tuner” scene it seems as if anyone can run to the store, or pull up a chair at their computer, and within days out pops a custom car. What the end result looks like is usually questionable, but it is still custom nonetheless. Unless, of course, you begin to comparing the custom car world as a whole and realize that you begin to see the same trends over and over again. This is not to say that its not a good trend, and I fully admit that my own project would be deemed unoriginal by many, but its not every day that you come across a project that makes you stop … stand back … and utter Holy Shit under your breath. This is exactly what happens when you see what Michael Savko has done with his girlfriends mk4 VW Jettta GLi.

I’ll give you a minute with this one …
